The Mountain Weekly

local newsletter featuring stories and happenings around the canyon

Last Week at a Glance

We had the pleasure of featuring Paul Tetreault’s work as one of the leading founders of the annual Haunt on the Hill, one of the canyon’s most beloved events.

We also touched base with Shannon Wray, and there’s more to come as we learn about her latest endeavors. I’m looking forward to sharing those updates soon.

Last week’s issue also included Meet Rachel: The Heart Behind Sidewalk Joy, a reminder of how much we can learn from people who live in different parts of the country yet share our same compassion for community and connectedness.

And finally, it marked our second announcement of the growing membership for the 38 Bulletin App, which continues to keep our community connected in one mobile meeting place.

The Mountain Weekly aims to provide a steady flow of updates that connect our lived experiences from week to week. Each issue offers space for another piece of the story we’re all living together here in our mountain communities.

Including our mountain connections that now stretch from the canyon to Denmark, Kentucky, and beyond! Hi y’all! We miss you and think of you often. Let’s write an update story together soon so we can all catch up and keep our connections lively.

New Group Forming

What’s Coming Up on the 38 Bulletin

Enneagram Group

Starting in two weeks, November 8th, we’ll begin a new six-week group titled Learning Myself Through the Enneagram, Part 1.

This will be a private group inside the 38 Bulletin App, so you’ll need to join the app first to be part of it. Once you’re in, you’ll receive an invitation to join the group itself. Think of it as a quiet space for honest learning and shared insight, not a classroom, just a circle of curious minds.

Housekeeping is simple, a little light dusting, you might say. The group is yours to explore at your own pace. There are no excuses because there’s no pressure to show up, just a gentle invitation to follow along. If something speaks to you, you’re welcome to share a remark or two. I’ll post weekly content for six weeks, one release each week, along with a few reflection questions. You can join the conversation anytime by adding your own thoughts or questions in the comments.

We’ll keep group notifications minimal so no one feels overwhelmed. If a topic stirs something deeper, we can move that conversation to private messaging for a more personal exchange. Later, we might highlight key insights from those private talks (with permission) so everyone can benefit from what we’re discovering together.

For those who don’t know, my nickname is FUN, short for Favorite Uncle Newman, a name my niece gave me. Just like the name suggests, this group will have heart, honesty, and a touch of fun along the way. If you’re the planning type or someone who likes to get things on your list or calendar early, just email me at mtntimes@yahoo.com and let me know you want to join.

Who This Is For

This group is for anyone who’s curious about what makes people tick, especially themselves. If you’ve ever wondered why you react the way you do, why certain patterns keep showing up, or how to find more peace in your daily rhythm, you’ll fit right in.

You don’t need to know anything about the Enneagram to join. All you need is an open mind, a little self-honesty, and the willingness to learn at your own pace. Whether you’re here to better understand yourself, your relationships, or simply enjoy good conversation, you’ll find something that speaks to you.

Week One begins with the three centers: Mind, Heart, and Body, the foundation of how we move through life.

The Canyon Vibe

The Haunted Library theme turned out to be a hit at Haunt on the Hill. Families showed up early, and the mix of games, costumes, and creative booths carried that familiar hometown energy. Kudos to Garden Club member and volunteer Rosey for her spirited portrayal of the strict librarian, with flair, as captured in the photo above.

A quiet but well-deserved nod goes to the VFCCI Board of Directors and the main volunteer crew at the Community Center. They’re the steady hands behind these gatherings, showing up early, staying late, and keeping the doors open for the rest of us to enjoy. They never ask for attention, but the heart they put into these events deserves to be recognized.

If anyone has photos from the night they’d like to share for next week’s newsletter, you can connect with me through the 38 Bulletin App or email them to mtntimes@yahoo.com.

We’ve also heard that maybe a few Haunt on the Hill T-shirts might still be available through VFCCI. Once there’s an update, we’ll share where and how to pick one up.

Caring for the Canyon We Share:

How We Come Together Each Year

"Every spring, neighbors roll up their sleeves for the annual Canyon Cleanup. It's not just about trash bags, it's about showing up for the place we all share. When the community comes together, the canyon shines brighter."  – Terry Hamilton, Mountain C.A.R.E.
